The Grizzlies fell to the River Cats, 4-1. In the Highway 99 Showdown the Grizzlies are 2-1.

GIANTS UPDATE: The Giants defeated the Rockies 6-1 before the start of the Grizzlies game tonight.

NINTH INNINGS:

Felix Romero relieves Matos in the top of the ninth. Brown grounds to right field, Posey misses on the dive. Affronti sacrifices for Brown to advance to second. Wimberly bunts to Romero who throws him out at first. Romero strikes out Carson, Mid 9th. River Cat Sam Demel relieves Rodriguez. Borchard bunts and is thrown out at first. Demel strikes out Guzman and Copeland.

SEVENTH – EIGHTH INNINGS:

Grizzlies Right-hander Osiris Matos relieves Pucetas in the top of the seventh. Matos gives his first batter, Affronti, a base hit. Wimberley attempts a bunt, then grounds to the pitcher. Affronti thrown out at second but dives into Rohlinger in the process. Umpire Jeff Latter calls Wimberley and Affronti out for the lost opportunity for a double play that the dive incurred. Matos strikes out Carson, Mid 7th. Kicking off the bottom of the 7th, Borchard hits a base hit to deep right field, to be complemented by a double by Guzman. Two men on in scoring position. River Cats left-hander Cedrick Bowers relieves Godfrey (in the Sac. bullpen Henry Rodriguez). Catcher Recker drops a Copeland fly ball at home plate, bases loaded. Holm flies out in the infield. Brett Pill will pinch hit for Brad Boyer and Henry Rodriguez relieves Bowers. Pill flies out, Borchard steals home. Grizzlies 2: 1 River Cats. Rodriguez wild pitch allows Guzman and Copeland to advance (3rd and 2nd). Bond strikes out. End of 7th. In the 8th, Brett Pill replaces Brad Boyer in third base. Carter starts the inning off by hitting a single to center field. Joe Patterson and Felix Romero in the bullpen for Fresno. Cust strikes out after four foul balls. A Matos wild pitch allows Carter to steal to second. Taylor homers to left field bringing home Carter, 1-4 River Cats. Cardenas grounds out to second, Recker line drives out to shortstop. Mid 8th. McBryde grounds out to shortstop and Rohlinger line drives out to short. Posey strikes out. End 8th.

FIFTH – SIXTH INNINGS:
Cardenas strikes out against Pucetas, his fourth for the night. Brock Bond drops a fly ball to right field giving Recker a base hit. Grizzlies attempt a second-play but get Recker at second and fail to get Brown at first. Affronti gets a base hit in the in-field, a hit short of third base. Wimberly gets a base hit after Pucetas could grab the ball, loading the bases. Pucetas walks Carson, giving him an RBI by bringing in Recker, River Cats lead 1-0. Bases loaded. Carter flies out to center field, Mid-5th. Copeland starts off the bottom of the 5th with a base hit to first. Holm sacrifice bunts to the first base line, Copeland advances to second. Boyer grounds out to first, Copeland advances to third. Bond flies out to left field. Kicking off the sixth inning, Cust gets a line drive to right field giving him a single. Pucetas gives up a double to Taylor, Cust is on third. Cardenas gets an RBI sacrifice giving the River Cats a 2-0 lead. Grizzlies get two fly outs by Recker and Brown. In the bottom of the sixth, the Grizzlies start of by getting on base with a fly ball to right field by McBryde. Rohlinger hits a ground out to second base for a double play. Another ground out for Posey. End of the 6th.

THIRD – FOURTH INNINGS:
Grizzlies held strong and only gave up a hit in the first two innings, but both defenses have tightened up compared to last night. River Cat Brown hits a near-homer foul out to rightfield before flying out to left field. Pucetas continued by gaining his second strikeout against Affronti. Wimberly gets a base hit off of a Rohlinger error. Carter pop flies at home plate. The Grizzlies return in the bottom of the third with a ground out by Copeland. Holm pegged on a wild pitch and walks. Boyer flies out in the in-field. Bond gets a walk. McBryde flies out to center field to end the inning. In the top of the fourth, the Grizzlies throw out Carter on a grounder to Boyer. Pucetas strikes out Cust for his third of the night. Taylor hits a far fly ball to center field caught by McBryde. In the bottom of the fourth, Rohlinger strikes out against Godfrey. Godfrey then proceeds to walk Posey. Godfrey gets luck and his second strikeout of the inning against Borchard. Guzman flies out to far right field.

FIRST – SECOND INNINGS:
The Grizzlies kicked off their third game of the season with strong defense. Pitcher Kevin Pucetas was able to hold first batter Wimberly to a 2-2 spread before giving him a fly out. Pucetas, while not striking anyone out in the top of the first, was able to not give up any hits; Carson sliced the ball at home plate and was thrown out and Carter grounded out to second. Just a note, Brock Bond entered to a techno-version of the 007-theme and then walked. Graham Godfrey, River Cat pitcher, struck out Mike McBryde. Ryan Rohlinger hit a fly out to rightfield, resulting in a double play at first base. Second inning started with two fly outs from Cust and Taylor followed by a base hit for Cardenas. Pucetas finally gained his first strikeout against Recker. Posey, playing first base today, flies out to right field followed by more fly outs for Borchard and Guzman.

After a month in the new season, The Fresno Grizzlies are playing game three of four in the Highway 99 Showdown at Chukchansi Park tonight. Last night, the Grizzlies took their second game of the series 5-0 against the Sacramento River Cats making their season record 14-7. Fresno’s team claimed the top spot in the PCL Pacific South and third in the entire PCL.

Tonight, the Grizzlies are giving away Drag Kings, aka the Dancing Grounds Crew, T-Shirts to the First 2,500 fans at the stadium. Be there!
