Fresno Briefs: Grizzlies offer deal, Mayor in DC

Happy Thursday (or Happy “One more day, One more day”)! Here’s two bits of news dealing with Fresno; one actually in Fresno, the other in Washington.

1. The Grizzlies have their date with the Council (Background): The Grizzlies finally get their chance to offer up a rent cut deal to the City Council. Naturally, no decision on granting the deal will be made until it is reviewed by the members and a vote is called. The Grizzlies called out to the community (for the second time) to show their support, this time by going to the council meeting and wearing Grizzlies gear. What we can expect: Any decision will take minimum 3 weeks. This derives from the Council’s constant deliberation over Mayor Swearengin’s budget proposal.

Naturally, that segways to our second brief:

2. Mayor Ashley Swearengin attending Presidential Jobs Summit: In the crowd of CEOs, Small Business owners (clearly not Joe the Plumber), labor leaders and four other mayors, Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin represents the San Joaquin Valley as the lone mayor. In a summit called the “Jobs and Economic Growth Forum,” Swearengin offers her perspective of the Valley’s struggling economy, one of the worst in the nation.
